Ozgur Gurcan
Software Engineer | Backend & Distributed Systems
Hi I'm Ozgur Gurcan (aka zgrgrcn)
I am a Software Engineer specializing in Backend & Distributed Systems, based in Izmir, Turkiye. Over the past 6+ years, I have focused on building resilient, high-throughput distributed systems in Java, Spring Boot, and Go.
Previously, I worked on the checkout critical path at Trendyol (ex-Trendyol), engineering active-active multi-datacenter architectures, Kafka event streaming, and large-scale data layers (PostgreSQL, Couchbase, Elasticsearch) serving millions of requests per minute. Currently, I focus on building side projects, experimenting with AI tooling (MCP & agents), and self-hosting modern platforms.
What I enjoy doing
- Distributed Systems & Architecture: Designing resilient event-driven architectures with the transactional outbox pattern, idempotent consumers, and distributed sagas.
- Database Engineering & Zero-Downtime Migrations: Moving critical data models and persistence layers under heavy traffic without downtime.
- Developer Experience & AI Automation: Building custom automation tooling—like autonomous AI code review bots using MCP (Model Context Protocol), vector databases, and n8n pipelines.
- Self-Hosting & Homelab: Experimenting with containerized workloads, Docker, Traefik, and self-hosted PaaS tools like Coolify.
When I'm away from the keyboard, you'll usually find me playing chess , enjoying rock music, playing video games (big fan of Dota 2 ), or spending time with my wife, Fulden.
